SET Project
The Sexuality Education for Transformation (SET) Project, with support from AmplifyChange, is a regional initiative implemented by SAYWHAT’s Girls Education Advocacy in the Region (GEAR) Alliance.
SET 1.0 (2022 – 2024) saw 10 GEAR members from Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe join hands in ensuring adolescent girls and young women in rural and Southern Africa have access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and information using Comprehensive Sexuality education as an entry point. Implementing partners included:
The Alliance addressed persistent challenges such as poor menstrual hygiene, unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and exposure to sexual violence, while promoting gender equality and the realization of SRH rights. The main goal was to build a strong movement of youth-serving organizations advocating for SRH rights for adolescent girls and young women in rural communities. At the end of SET 1.0, the project successfully strengthened CSO capacities in evidence-based advocacy, enhanced participation in SRH policy review platforms, promoted inter-country peer learning, and increased visibility of SRH messages countering opposition to CSE.
SET 2.0 (2025–2026) was renewed for another two years, maintaining its alignment with the ESA Ministerial Commitments on CSE and SRH. The new phase continues under SAYWHAT’s leadership with implementing partners from Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Zambia
Building on the achievements of SET 1.0, the renewed project focuses on sustaining advocacy gains, deepening policy influence, and expanding community-based interventions to ensure that SRH rights for adolescent girls and young women remain a priority across Southern Africa.
