The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is an annual international campaign focused on combating violence against women and girls. It is commemorated from from 25th of November, (which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10th December, (which is the Human Rights Day). This campaign serves as a platform for countries worldwide to raise awareness and join forces in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The global adopted commemorations color is Orange. SAYWHAT joins the world in commemorating the elimination of GBV through an Orathon. Orathon is explained as follows, Ora… from the adopted Orange colour for the commemorations and “thon” from Marathon. This means SAYWHAT organizes the Orathon which is 16 km. Students and joined by the communities in running 16 kms as a way of raising awareness on the commemorations of eliminating GBV. It takes two to tangle, the Orathon is also split into two, females run 8 km and Males run 8 km which signifies a shared responsibility to eliminate GBV
The 2024 Orathon which is the 6th edition will be done under the theme, “Stride for Equality, Empowerment, and Respect”
